The Las Vegas Sun reports that the Forever One Memorial will break ground Friday, October 2, 2026, the day after Las Vegas marks the ninth anniversary of the October 1, 2017 mass shooting.

What we know

According to a story by Grace Da Rocha published at 2 a.m. on September 30, a private groundbreaking will come before a community gathering open to the public from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the future site, near the corner of East Reno Avenue and Giles Street. The Sun says that public portion includes performances by Pat Dalton Outlaws and Angels, Bryan Hopkins, and Shannon Kain, with parking at the Roman Catholic Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer off East Reno Avenue.

The paper says organizers expect the memorial's first phase to open in time for the tenth anniversary in October 2027. In the same story, the Sun describes the 2017 attack during the Route 91 Harvest festival as killing 58 people and injuring more than 850, and calls it the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Those figures are the Sun's. This desk has not independently counted them.

The Sun also lists other remembrance events for Thursday, including a morning ceremony at the Clark County Government Center. Times, addresses, and the rest of that list belong to the Sun's story, which is linked below.

What's next

Friday's gathering is the event the Sun scheduled. If organizers publish a change of time or place, this page will be updated from that record rather than from a recap.
